Why Don’t You Have More Followers?

A steady follower count still matters for your brand’s reach, its credibility and the leads it can bring in. If your numbers feel stuck, a handful of common habits are usually to blame. Here’s what’s holding your following back and what you can change this month.

You’re not telling a story

People don’t want to hear how great you are and how amazing your product is – that’s akin to preaching or talking at your audience. Instead, you should draw them in with a story. Make sure your posts and comments and videos tell a story about you and your brand rather than just conveying a one-dimensional message. Come in at a different angle and get people engaged.

You need more videos

Videos are still working amazingly well, so make and use as many as you can. They don’t all have to be high production-value affairs – a quick live-feed from your workshop or your commute will do, as long as some of your works are a bit slicker. If you have crazy pets, they’ll bring in the crowds without fail.

You’re lacking a sense of adventure

Gathering followers is partly a numbers game, so the more people you reach, the more will follow you. Beyond Facebook and LinkedIn, short-form video on TikTok and Instagram Reels now drives a large share of new-follower growth, so test a few clips there alongside your usual promoted posts. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune, just give it a go and see what results you get.

You’re not persistent enough

You need to stay consistent and to add new content several times a week. Most experts recommend that you post three times a week at least. You can add short content and infographics daily, a blog post three times a week and a long-form article once a week or so.

You’re too slow to try out new features

If your favourite platforms release new features and functionalities and you usually look at them and think “I’ll have a go tomorrow…”, then you could be missing a trick. Try them out there and then, even if it looks ham-fisted, because this will increase engagement and show people that you’re fun, forward-looking and open-minded. Ask for comments and feedback – you’ll probably get some anyway, but if you’re ready to have a laugh at yourself, then you’ll garner a small army of followers.
