Are you receiving SEO Email Spam?
Many of our clients have reported that they are repeatedly receiving unwelcome, unsolicited email spam in relation to Google search engine and SEO search engine optimisation services for their business, in the main from Indian, so-called “SEO experts”. We’d like to offer some background information behind these irritating spam emails.
Many business owners receive hundreds of emails daily, from genuine promotions, prospective customers and current clients. In addition, you are likely to spot several that say they are from an “Expert Strategist Online” or that say “SEO proposition”, someone who has viewed your website (or not! and offers their help to make your website even better, improve your company’s online presence or unlock the many secrets of SEO. Although these proposals may seem amazing, underneath the wrapping, they’re an utter waste of time and money, with the “experts” behind them wanting nothing more than to make a quick dollar out of you.
It has been discovered that the majority of these spammers are based overseas, using unrecognisable email addresses that are impossible to trace back to a reputable and genuine website.
There are also many spam emails that may contain harmful malware, phishing attempts, or even viruses, which is a scary thought, as once they have access to your site, they can commit cyber fraud and have access to your personal and financial information. This type of unsolicited spam is at almost epidemic proportions. Your business is probably one of the thousands worldwide that have been scammed and pressured into giving a response. Australian Government bodies give recommendations that you should not give access to your business to these un-reputable individuals, who target businesses with illegal spam emails.
How to deal with these unwanted emails
Initially, ask yourself the question, “Should I trust this unknown person, who has made contact with me via an unsolicited email, who has no valid website, with my search engine strategy?” The answer always has to be a simple – NO!
Not ALL SEO emails are scams
Some emails you receive from SEO agencies may not be a scam – more so a desperate tout for business. As with any SEO agency, always ask to see real results they have achieved for other businesses in your local market. Always check out their website and look for Google Reviews.
