Chrome Flash blocking; bad news for some website owners
Are you a company who relies on Flash for their website? If you are then you are not alone. Many companies have chosen to opt for flash, however, there is some bad news recently released regarding the interaction between Chrome and Flash based sites.
Google announced in October 2016 that by the end of that year, Chrome would block Flash based content by default. Mozilla had already moved away from Flash around a month earlier, and the change was set to affect a wide range of websites.
It has been confirmed that Chrome will now opt for HTML5 instead of Flash and whilst the default is to block Flash, there is likely to be an option for those website that fully rely on Flash with an associated plug in.
So is Chrome alone in this decision?
The answer is no, not at all. We have mentioned that Mozilla were also moving away from Flash; as are Safari and video giants YouTube. All of which are now favouring HTML5 instead. Apple were one of the first technology giants who shunned the world of Flash, moving the majority of their products over to other platforms.
Most of the staff within Flash have already been moved away from their Flash roots and towards HTML5; which here at Viva Digital, we believe shows that the time is most definitely up for this company which has been around since the 1990s.
Whilst it is sad that they are being left behind in these new technological advances; we always welcome in new and improved tools to help business and their customers to connect.
